THE VIEW FROM ST. CHARLES

VOLUME 50

Charlie Kirk posted a video on YouTube five days ago, watch it and then read my comments and think about it.

First things first, I totally agree with Charlie when it comes to Nikki Haley. She makes me want to cringe every time I see and hear her speak. Sorta like Hillary only different. Charlie says that Vievek is the youngest and most conservative candidate on the debate stage, again, I agree. Here is where we part ways. Charlie says young people are increasingly becoming conservatives because the current state of the union is not allowing them to participate due home prices being out of their reach, the cost of living is astronomical, and they just can’t get any traction.

From my observations over the past few years, I think young people are leaning more toward socialism, based on the very same reasons. They feel that capitalism is preventing them from having a seat at the table.

Fast rewind to the last Democrat presidential primary. Who was leading the pack? Bernie Sanders. Bernie Sanders would have easily beat out Joe Biden. Why? He had a huge following of young people that subscribed 100% to his message. They didn’t want to hear Joe Biden ramble on about record players and domestic violence. They wanted a major change in the way the game is being played, feeling they had a better chance under a socialist government.

All of you know I’m really old, older than old Joe but in much better shape. I bought my first home when I was 21 years old, a four room tract house for $7,000.00. I was working in a steel shop earning a whopping $2.25 per hour. My wife was a stay-at-home mom. If you amortize a $7,000.00 loan for thirty years at 6.5% interest, I was able to make the payments and still have decent car and food on the table.

A five room house today in the same neighborhood will cost you $148.00 per square foot or about $290,000.00 plus. Now I’m not great at math, but I calculate that as being roughly about 41 times more than it was in 1961. I’m going to guess that the payment for a $290,000.00 loan is going to be around $2,500.00 per month after a 15% down payment. Good rule of thumb is that your monthly income should be four times the amount of your payment. That means you have to have a gross income of about $10,000.00 per month to qualify, or about $63.00 per hour. That’s a big nut to crack to for a single income family. If husband and wife are both working, it’s still a big nut to crack when you add in two cars and household expenses. Add a couple of kiddies and it starts getting really tough. By the way average American wages today are about $59,000.00 per year or about $4,900.00 per month. You don’t have to be a mathematician to figure out that the picture isn’t exactly rosy.

So, a young adult coming out of college with a hefty student loan has to be looking at this as being highly unlikely for them to participate in the American dream. A reality check will tell them, it’s not likely to improve, ever. Socialism is starting to look like a lot better deal, with government funded housing among a host of other government provided services.

I don’t have to tell you that socialism is not the answer. So, what is the answer, and how did we get in this big mess? You can safely lay the blame on the United States Capitol steps. Inept politicians, steeped in greed, have brought us to this unpleasant place in time. Now they are exacerbating the problem by allowing hordes of uneducated, illegal aliens to flood across the borders creating even more need for welfare and higher taxes, in order to sustain the added burden of unproductive people. Now just for good measures throw in three or four military conflicts to fund, around the world. Joe Biden and the Democrats never stop talking about more taxes, you never hear them mention cutting spending. They just can’t seem to get enough of your money to spend.

I know several older folks that depend on social security to survive. One of them in particular barely exists on $1,200.00 per month. She worked hard during her life raised a couple of kids, good citizen, great American. Lives in an old folks home. An illegal alien that arrived a month ago is given a hotel room in a nice building, $2,400.00 per month in spending money, food stamps, and other goodies including free medical care. Is this the EQUITY they are constantly referring to?

Nope sorry Charlie, the country is really fucked up, and the Republicans are not doing a damn thing to help it. I really like you dude, but you’re not living in reality. The reality is that this country is on a steep slide to hell, and it’s picking up speed. If you watched the press conference today with Mitch McConnel and the senate Republicans any hope you may have had just got annihilated. It’s utterly hopeless.

  1. It’s becoming hard to write any longer as big brother is screening my words. They seem to want to control content everywhere. Never seen this before. I’m an opinion writer but apparently opinions have to be screened now. This is getting scary. I don’t need them telling me what is considered inaccurate or biased after all the crap we have listened to by Main Stream Media for the last eight years. They took out a whole paragraph in my recent post which I scratched after they did this.

    1. I thought they were editing my posts for a few weeks, it turned out the auto save was not was malfunctioning and I didn’t notice it. Now I manually save every so often during writing. I have had to take a picture of the screen with my phone and download it to my email, bring it up on my right-hand monitor and retype it. I don’t know if that’s happening to you but check it out. The auto-save will be blinking saying it’s saving it but it isn’t. I complained to Word Press and they didn’t have any suggestions. I hope this is the problem, and not what you are thinking. Thanks for taking the time to read my stuff. Keep hammering away, we may make a difference.

      1. I’m pretty sure it’s what I think. They blocked out a whole paragraph with the explanation that it was inaccurate or biased. I left it in, but it didn’t appear on my draft. Totally removed by them. I complained but they didn’t offer any excuses. They admit what they are doing. Just like the Democrats do. Freedom of the press is no longer.

      2. Hmm. I say some pretty wild stuff and never had that happen yet. I don’t have any ads on my blog, I know you did at least for a while. Maybe, if you have paid advertisers they monitor it more closely??? I have considered doing the ad thing but have steered away for that reason. I always proof my blogs after publishing to make sure they haven’t been altered. So far, so good. This is not good news, hope you find out what is going on and let me know. I followed “Love Infusion”, a Canadian blogger for years and when Trudeau came into power they virtually shut her down. She no longer publishes her blog. ( she was super critical of the Canadian government)

        Cheers,
