VOLUME 129

KINDA CURRENT NEWS.
While I was perusing YouTube this evening, sorta my hobby lately, I came across a video by Matt Walsh I want to share with you. The reason I feel compelled to share it is because this has been an ongoing topic at our house for a long time now. A situation that became noticeable during the Covid years and has gotten worse, a lot worse.
RESTAURANT FOOD SUCKS!!!
My family consists of two people and a wire haired terrier (he doesn’t like to be called a dog). But to everyone else in the world he’s a dog, except of course other wire haired terrier owners. Restaurants don’t care what breed he is, he ain’t coming in. The point is, we eat out a lot because my wife says cooking for two people is too hard. When she has a sign in her kitchen that says”for show only” I really don’t believe her. But I don’t have a choice because I ain’t cookin’.
Almost 100% of the time, after a meal at our local restaurants, we immediately have a conversation about how terrible the food was. Then we begin to analyze why. Although we come up with our ideas, we really have no idea, we just know that a few years ago you could get meal that was genuinely delicious and were anxious to go back again. Sadly, those days are over. My favorite dish at our local Appleby’s is blackened Salmon with mashed taters’ and broccoli. You have to be a complete moron to screw that up. Anyway, after hundreds of disappointing meals I saw this video by Matt Walsh and it made complete sense. Click on the link below.

As far as fast food restaurants go there are three in my area I frequent, that have pretty darned good food. Number one is “Nancy Jo’s Burgers and Fries”. They have seven locations and the burgers and fries are delicious at every single store. “Nancy’s” is locally owned, and managed by the owners, so the food is always fresh, never frozen.
Number two: Arby’s, I have been eating at Arby’s ever since they first opened when their stores looked like covered wagons. As a matter of fact, they still sell the old fashioned “Super Arby’s” roast beef sandwich with sweet and sour sauce. I love ’em. Their Salted Caramel Chocolate Chip cookies are killers.
Number three: Chipotles, the food is super tasty and priced affordably. Two people can have a large meal for under 25 dollars. Problem; they have a large turnover of employees, and the quality of food can be iffy at times. The proper level of seasoning is paramount, and the newbies don’t always get it right. But, it’s right most of the time.
I love fish, and apparently nobody knows how to cook fish anymore. I won’t buy it unless I know the restaurant and have had good luck in the past. The last piece fish I bought at a Denny’s was so over cooked the edges were like hard plastic. It was terrible.
Good luck in your dining away from home folks. It’s a real crap shoot if you’re in unfamiliar territory. You might want to ask a local resident before you lay down your hard-earned money and walk away horribly disappointed.
