THE VIEW FROM ST. CHARLES

VOLUME 44

Just moments ago, while perusing the morning news, I read a story about an execution that took place in an Oklahoma prison, not too far from where I grew up. The person writing the story is against the practice and has witnessed numerous executions looking for evidence to support his claim that it’s cruel and unusual punishment.

Although I am a proponent of the death penalty, I do agree that deliberately killing a human being is pretty cruel. Unusual? Not so much these days. Have you checked on the homicide stats recently? I would say it’s a pretty common occurrence in Chicago and Oakland to just name a couple. In my opinion, that pretty much decimates half of the cruel and unusual argument.

OK, so they have the cruel half of the argument still in place. I just read another story this morning about a grizzly attack in Yellowstone killing a hiker. Immediately following the attack, the Rangers located the bear and executed it. The bear didn’t even have a lawyer or a trial. He was presumed guilty without due process. So, was the person the bear killed a super important person? Nope, just a hiker traversing through the bear’s home.

Do you remember last year when a feral person walked into a furniture store in Los Angeles and killed a young female working alone? She was in her habitat, not threatening the feral person in any way. So, why wasn’t this feral person found, identified, and executed? There aren’t really any significant differences in these two scenarios. The feral person that committed this murder, will likely walk free in a few years and will likely strike again. This did happen in California after all, in the jurisdiction of scum bag D.A. George Gascon, and the perp Shawn Laval Smith is black. So, it’s unlikely that justice will be served in Brianna Kupfer’s death. Everyone will move on and forget it.

Again, I am totally mystified as to why you get justice when you’re mauled to death by a grizzly bear, but not when you’re stabbed 150 times by a crazy ass feral person. I really want an answer to this question. If you know the answer, please explain it to me.

In the meantime, I would highly recommend that people that are not incapacitated by a traumatic brain injury, blind, or born with a serious mental deficit to stop leaving yourselves vulnerable to this type of insanity and arm themselves with a firearm and firearm training. It’s pretty obvious that if you are paying attention, nobody gives a rat’s ass if another person takes your life. If you’re hiking, arm yourself with bear spray. Save the bear’s life and yours, ’cause there’s swift justice in the wilderness.
