VOLUME 5

A news article caught my attention this morning, it’s about a topic that I have personally took note of over the years in my travels around this nation. I lived in Washington state for several years, and in my travels on I-5 going south I passed by Lewis-McChord joint base many times. I couldn’t help but notice the shoddy run down appearance of the buildings, which appeared to be barracks. It always irritated me to think we paid a huge amount of money to erect these buildings, and the military allowed them to deteriorate. This isn’t a rare occurrence. I have seen the same thing on several military installations. I was a mechanical service contractor and visited several Air Force bases in California and I was always taken back by the lack of building maintenance. I’m not sure what the logic is behind ignoring property maintenance by the U.S. Government. As a taxpayer, I expect my money to be well spent in preserving our buildings, not allowing them to just fall apart.

Wasteful spending is nothing new in the military world. Over the years I have seen several congressional investigations into this problem. The waste they discover is always staggering. But it never seems to fix it. I worked with a fellow years ago that was stationed on a military base in California. He told me that excess military equipment was purchased, never used, and simply stored in open air lots, left to deteriorate.

I worked for L.A. City for a brief time and when I turned in my budget for the coming year it was turned down for being too low. I was told every new budget has to be more, if it’s less than last years, it will make it nearly impossible to raise in the future. If that attitude prevails at the city level, I can only imagine how prevalent it is at the National level, where way more money is at stake. So, in case you missed the point, being frugal, and efficient is strongly discouraged. What could possibly go wrong?

I constantly hear politicians say; “we have the best military in the world”. Words are way cheaper than action. If they valued our military as they claim they do, they would ensure that our soldiers had the very best accommodations, and equipment available. I distinctly remember during the Iraq war that private citizens were buying bullet proof vests and sending them to our soldiers, because the government issued vests were inferior to what was available on the open market here at home.

The U.S. Government is fat, dumb and lazy. It’s filled with greedy self-serving morons that only care about riding the gravy train to retirement. I’m pretty sure no one seeks a government position to build a better America. They seek government positions for purely selfish reasons, and that goes all the way to the top. Barrack Obama went from a community organizer in Chicago to being super rich, with numerous beach front properties in a span of eight years. Long term members of congress make less than 200K per year but somehow amass fortunes in the millions of dollars and own huge homes in the best neighborhoods. President Harry Truman said; “Show me a man that gets rich being a politician, and I’ll show you a crook”.

My friends, in my 82 years on this earth, I have never seen a more inept and greedier group of people running our government. I could not present a more valid example than our current president. The Democrat party is a cancer, growing and threatening the life of this great Nation. Although I am full of hope, realistically I’m not sure it can be salvaged. Some very powerful forces are working against it.
